About Stretchly
Stretchly is a free, open-source break reminder app that helps you take regular breaks while working at a computer. Long stretches of uninterrupted screen time can lead to eye strain, stiffness and fatigue, and it is easy to lose track of time when focused. Stretchly runs quietly in the background and reminds you to step away, stretch or rest your eyes at regular intervals. It works on Windows, macOS and Linux.
By default Stretchly uses two kinds of breaks: short mini breaks at frequent intervals and longer breaks less often. Each break shows a gentle suggestion, such as an exercise for your eyes, neck or back, and a countdown until you can return to work. Everything is configurable, including intervals, durations, notification behaviour, sounds, colours and the text of the break ideas. When you first run it, a welcome window lets you choose a language, review the preferences or view the online tutorial.
Stretchly tries to be considerate. You can postpone or skip breaks when necessary, pause reminders for a while, and enable a strict mode if you want breaks to be harder to dismiss. Natural break detection notices when you have been away from the keyboard and resets the timers so you are not asked to take a break right after returning. It can also respect do-not-disturb settings and avoid interrupting presentations or full-screen work, depending on your operating system.
